Supported Files and Limits

This page lists the file types TrialMind accepts and the limits that apply when you create a protocol and when you add to its Source Files.

File types

File type Supported for upload
PDF Yes
DOCX Yes
PPTX Yes
XLSX Yes
CSV Yes
TXT Yes
MD Yes
DOC, PPT, XLS No. Save the file as DOCX, PPTX, or XLSX and upload it again.
Macro-enabled Office files (DOCM, PPTM, XLSM) No. Save a copy without macros.
Images (JPG, PNG, and others) No
ZIP archives No
Other file types No

The same types apply in the New Protocol wizard and in Source Files.

TrialMind decides a file's type from its extension and then checks that the contents match. A file that is renamed to a different extension is refused.

Files TrialMind refuses

Even a supported type is refused if:

  • A PDF is password-protected.
  • A PDF, DOCX, PPTX, or XLSX file is corrupt or cannot be read.
  • An Office file contains macros.
  • An Office file is built in a way that expands to an unsafe size.

The row for the file shows the reason. Remove the password or macros, or save a clean copy, and upload it again.

Limits

Limit Value Applies to
Documents when creating a protocol 1 to 20 The New Protocol wizard
File size 50 MB per file The wizard and Source Files

Notes in a protocol 200 Source Files
Note title 200 characters Source Files
Note text 50,000 characters Source Files

The 20-document limit applies only while you create a protocol. After creation you can add files until the protocol reaches 50 files, counting the original documents. Notes are counted separately.

What happens to a file after it is added

Where you add it What TrialMind does
New Protocol wizard Reads the file as part of extraction and proposes protocol details.
Source Files, after the protocol exists Stores the file and can use it as AI context. It does not start a new extraction.

See Extraction and Review and Manage Source Files.
